Our thoughts and beliefs are reflected back to us in every aspect of our everyday lives. It’s the simple law of attraction. If we believe the world is a good place, our experiences in it will be. If we believe that people are bad, the ones we encounter will be to us.
A few years ago, I was travelling in Barcelona on a business trip. When I got off the plane, I saw signs everywhere warning visitors to watch out for pickpockets. I get that crime happens, but that didn’t sit well with me. I believe that most people are good and I always will.
A few days later, I was walking through a touristy area of the city. I heard a loud voice yelling behind me. Normally I would have ignored it, but something made me turn around. A thirty-something man was running towards me waving a passport and money. I looked down and saw that my purse had unzipped. He reached me and handed me what I had dropped. I was horrified and grateful at the same time. I took the passport but told him to keep the twenty euros. He declined and said he was happy to help me.
Jump to the next day. I was rushing through the subway system early in the morning to get to the airport. Dang it if the same thing doesn’t happen again. A kind stranger ran up to me with my passport and then disappeared in the opposite direction. After my heart stopped racing and I vowed to throw the purse away when I got home, I remembered the signs at the airport.
The universe was showing me I was right. It was absolute validation that how I perceived the world was the way I would experience it. And on that trip it was proven not once but twice.
This is just one example. I have dozens in my life. And I am grateful for all of them.
I live my life every day in the knowledge that the universe is perfect. There are no accidents and there are no coincidences.
I believe there is a reason for everything that happens. Both the good and the not so good. There is learning in all of it. And that’s why we are here after all – to learn and grow and experience joy.
When you live in the belief that your thoughts control your outcomes and everything happens for a reason – all for your greater good – you cease to be a victim. And that’s a powerful place to live. So be mindful of your thoughts. Take regular inventory of them. Are they serving you or are they blocking you from living the life you want
